Truth About Online Game Addiction
Online gaming is very common nowadays that is has become a system for most of us well as an avid gamer myself online games are like a sanctuary where you can be a character you can only dream of. Its a little exaggerated but yes that's true most gamers out there puts a little of bit himself or should i say his entire personality in making his ideal character. But what makes Online Gaming an addiction or a craze mostly appealing in younger generations is "human interaction" a game is judged through its gameplay and graphics but even it is the best of its kind out there but only a few person is hooked to it i think it will just become one of those games wherein people would say "oh didn't know that game existed". But why do many gamers eventually gets addicted with this games the reason is simple you get entertained while meeting other people within the grasps of your mouse also it is a place to boast your skill and gain supremacy over others simply put egoistic that's the goal of every gamer and those gamers who would say " nah i just want to play because its fun " should stop lying to themselves I'm a gamer myself so i know these things.
But in every excessive use comes a consequence like what uncle Ben said in the spider man movie "With every great power comes a great responsibility" i know this line has been used like a million times but i think it suits perfectly because technology makes these things possible though some of us tend to forget that computer games are meant to be pastime use not lifetime use. Online game addiction also threats the society itself low productivity rate, one of the top reasons of college dropout stated by Deborah Taylor Tate. (for more info click this) Families also can take the toll in such addiction well nothing comes free right online game has this "godly" items that can only be bought by real cold cash how about a 14 year old gamer who is desperate to acquire such item will turn to her parents credit card this situation is real life and i know a bunch of people who have done such (Don't look at me i maybe an avid gamer but i have never gone to such lengths just to clear things up) here is an excerpt from an article by symantec
"It is important that people realize that playing a lot is not the same thing as pathological play. For something to be an addiction, it has to mean more than you do it a lot. It has to mean that you do it in such a way that it damages your life."
To sum things up it is not bad to play such games just know your limits don't waste your life trying to impress people around you by being a gaming addict trust me nothing is impressing about that. Try to catch some fresh air be more socially active get some real friends not cyber ones and don't forget that life isn't all about yourself so if your an addict in online games my friend you need to get a life and dont waste your life sticking your nose in the monitor for the rest of your life hope this serves as a wake up call for some people.
